A strategic design collaboration supporting early-stage startups with clarity and impact. I created investor-ready pitch materials and brand assets that helped founders communicate their vision with confidence and professionalism.
From an idea to an enterprise
Match Ball Venture’s mission is to equip early-stage startups with the tools and confidence to bring their vision to life. A central need? Translating complex startup ideas into compelling, confidence-inspiring design assets—especially for fundraising, pitch decks, and identity building
Early-stage startups often struggle to:
Explain their product vision succinctly to investors.
Structure their pitch materials for clarity and flow.
Balance technical depth with accessibility for non-expert audiences.
This communication gap impacts investor confidence and hinders fundraising efforts.
To frame the design approach, I asked a series of UX research questions:
Who is the primary audience for startup pitch materials?
What do investors need to understand in the first 3 minutes of a presentation?
Which parts of the startup narrative are most often misunderstood?
How can we use visual hierarchy to guide attention and reduce cognitive load?
What design principles make pitch decks both scalable (adaptable for future growth) and consistent across different startups?
Founder Interviews: Spoke with early-stage founders to identify pain points in communicating their story.
Stakeholder Workshops: Collaborated with Match Ball Venture partners to align on goals and investor expectations.
Competitor Benchmarking: Analyzed pitch materials from comparable accelerators and VC portfolios to identify best practices.
Content Audit: Reviewed existing startup pitch decks to highlight recurring patterns of overload, unclear hierarchy, or inconsistent messaging.
Based on insights, I structured the design process around four phases:
Discovery — Mapped user needs (investors, founders) and clarified success metrics (clarity, credibility, adaptability).
Strategy — Developed a storytelling framework aligned with investor decision-making flow.
Design — Created modular, investor-ready pitch decks and brand assets with strong visual hierarchy, consistent typography, and accessible color systems.
Iteration — Validated with test presentations and feedback cycles, refining until clarity and confidence were achieved.
Investors prioritize clarity over detail — they need a concise story first, then data to back it up.
Founders tend to over-explain technical aspects, creating cognitive overload.
Pitch decks lacked a clear narrative arc (problem → solution → traction → vision).
Visual inconsistencies weakened credibility and distracted from the story.
Startups needed flexible, repeatable templates they could adapt quickly.
The project resulted in a set of scalable, investor-ready pitch deck templates and brand assets that transformed how Match Ball Venture’s founders presented their ideas. By restructuring complex content into a clear narrative arc, the materials provided clarity while maintaining credibility, reducing cognitive load for investors, and allowing founders to focus on storytelling rather than formatting. This not only elevated the professionalism of the presentations but also built confidence among founders, equipping them with tools that could adapt as their startups grew and their needs evolved.
This project demonstrated how UX research in a startup context is less about user interfaces and more about user understanding — identifying the information needs of both founders and investors, and designing communication systems that bridge that gap.
By treating storytelling as a UX challenge, the work went beyond visuals: it created strategic clarity, built credibility, and empowered founders to communicate their vision with impact.
